Vray is kind of out of style for Cinema4D, at the moment.īut like I said, it's just a tool. And the people who wanted a cpu based solution are kinda going to Arnold. So, as soon as a great 3rd party alternative to vray came around in Octane, everyone pretty much jumped ship. So theyre always behind in terms of features, and its not a big team from what I understand, so their support leaves some to be desired.
and they have to adapt the standalone/Max codebase for cinema. But the C4D version is made by a company called Laublab. So they're always pretty current feature wise. they also make most of the others, like the plugin for Maya, Sketchup, Rhino and Blender are all made in house by the Chaos Group. The prime developers of Vray are Chaos Group, they make the Max version upon which all other versions are based. The problem with Vray4C4D is that its always a step (or a couple steps in reality) behind the max version, because the people who make Vray4C4D are not the prime developers of Vray. And then there been a couple other engines introduced to Cinema which have better c4d support from the developer, like Arnold.
specifically with regards to Cinema, vRay's popularity has been waning in the past year or so, mostly because alot of c4d users who use 3rd party engines have turned to Octane. So not using Vray or Max I dont feel has hurt my arch viz skill in anyway. I dont get to do Viz often, but when i do I use Cinema.because that's what I like. here's more recent stuff and for a change of pace: details Its pretty old.but Here's some of my work. That being said: I'm an architect who doesnt use Revit or Max. and then most of them use vRay with max because MentalRay is a pain in the butt. Yeah most architects use Revit, and therefore use Max, because theres a really tight integration between the two.
